Game Recap

The Lady Patriots had a great, come from behind victory in today’s quarter-final matchup against Notre Dame (Crowley) in Sulphur, Louisiana at Frasch Park. The Patriots trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Jenna Bordelon led off with base hit and advanced to 2nd on Toni Rizzo’s sacrifice bunt. Brianna Neal followed with an infield hit, advancing Bordelon to 3rd. The big hit came off the bat of Logan Melancon who plated Bordelon with her hit. Neal then came around to score all the way from first and Melancon ended up at 2nd. Peyton Picou then reached 1st base on an infield hit. After stealing both 2nd and 3rd, Peyton Adams hit a clutch 2 out, 2-RBI base hit to give the Patriots a 6-3 lead. Lydia Linden followed suit with an RBI base hit for a 7-3 lead.
The game would not be without controversy, however. In the first inning and one third, starting pitcher Peyton Pigniolo was charged with 10 illegal pitches, which resulted in a run scored by Notre Dame. Toni Hebert came on in relief of Pigniolo and went the rest of the way inside the circle for the Patriots to pick up the win on the mound.
The Patriots will now face the North Vermilion Patriots tomorrow at 1PM at Frasch Park in the semi-finals. The state championship will be played tomorrow at 5PM, as well.
