The Lady Patriots softball team will begin their quest for the Select Division I State Championship with a quarterfinal game Friday, April 28, in Sulphur. They will play Archbishop Chapelle at 5 p.m. on Field 18 in Frasch Park.
The Lady Patriots are playing in Division I for the first time in a change of classifications. Curtis was upset in the first round of last year’s Class 5A competition.
Coach Jerry Godfrey’s team enters this year’s competition with an 18-10 record and the #3 seed. Chapelle is seeded #6 and had a 6-18 record in the 2017 season. Curtis defeated Chapelle twice, winning 10-1 on the road and 4-3 at home.
The winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the game between #2 Mt. Carmel and #7 C.E. Byrd. Mt. Carmel won two tight games over Curtis, 6-4 and 5-2, en route to the district title. All eight Select Division I teams received byes to the quarterfinals. Evangel is seeded #1.
The semifinals will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Curtis would play in the later game), and the championship game will be the same day at 7:30 p.m.
