To say the Lady Patriot basketball team has been on fire as of late, is an understatement. Not only has the team won 14 straight games in a row, no team has come within double digits of defeating the Lady Patriots since dropping a one point loss to McKinley, all the way back on December 1st! The closest team to come close was Cabrini, last Saturday when the Lady Patriots won by 13 points in a 51-28 victory. However, that game was played amidst terrible conditions during the week when school had to be cancelled for 3 days because of bitter cold weather. The Lady Patriots had several days off between games and a few practices had to be cancelled. Opening district play versus traditional power Mount Carmel, though, was a different story. After a competitive first quarter, where the Patriots led by just four points, the team began to find it’s groove en route to a 69-23 blowout victory. The Patriots will continue in district play against the Archbishop Chapelle Chipmunks, who have played very well recently. The ‘Chips defeated Dominican to open their district play on a buzzer beater to give Dominican just it’s second loss of the season. Despite the Lady Patriots being the favorite and top contender in the Division I playoff bracket, they are actually number two in the power point system, behind Dominican’s 22-2 record. McKinley is currently in 3rd place in the power points. However, the Lady Patriots will face Dominican twice before the end of the regular season, so as they say, there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played! See you at the gym!
