The day started off very well for on the girls side as Ariel Meyers placed 3rd overall in the shot put to put the Patriots on the board early in the meet with 6 points. Freshman Zoe Curtis also competed in this event but did not finish high enough to score points toward the team total, as she finished in 13th place. Another 3rd place finish, this time by Cameron Goodman, in the long jump tacked on another 6 points increasing the total to 12. Next up was the 4×200 meter relay team comprising of runners Cameron Goodman, Diamond Smith, Raven Nunnery and Te’a Harris. Their race finished with a time of 1:46.77, which was good for a 4th place finish and 4 points toward the team total of 16 points. Diamond Smith would then move over to the field events where she placed 4th, as well, with a jump of 5’2″ to add another 4 points, increasing the team total to 20 points. Laila Jackson was the 800 meter dash state runner up as she crossed the line in 2:20.76, to earn 8 points and increase the team total to 28 points. In the 4×800 meter relay, the team of Troianna Gause, Hannah Ivory, Alli Despaux and Laila Jackson, finished 3rd in the state to earn 6 more points. The team now had earned 34 total points. Troianna Gause picked up a point, by finishing in 6th place in the 3200 meter run, to give the team 35 points.
We are extremely proud of our girls track team and their coaches. Considering a majority of their practice time comes during the Christmas break and Mardi Gras week, it is a testament to their hard work, dedication, sacrifice and commitment to excellence!
