Girls Varsity Basketball · 2017-18 STATE CHAMPIONS!!!!

The 2017-18 John Curtis Christian Lady Patriot basketball team can now claim that they are, perhaps, the best team to ever suit up in a Lady Patriot basketball uniform. Although, I’m sure the other four state champion teams before them that lay claim to being the best ever, this team was nothing short of dominant. Basically, from start to finish, this team dominated their opponent, in an unprecedented fashion. Dispatching teams with a suffocating, relentless defense and an ability to out rebound their opponent on a consistent basis, helped this team finish with a 31-1 record. The only blemish? The team they beat for the state title both last season and this season, the McKinley Panthers. The Patriots avenged the 44-43 loss, way back on December 1st, 2017, with a dominant performance Saturday afternoon at the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana. The Patriots completed their fantastic 2016-17 season with a 43-26 victory over McKinley and an overall record of 32-2. The Patriots outdid that fantastic season by one upping the overall record and by winning by 13 points in the 2018 state championship game.

The Patriots’ schedule was also dotted with numerous playoff teams. Even eventual state champions. The Lady Patriots defeated the Division II state champs twice 67-49 and 66-47. They defeated the 3A champs 53-30. They defeated the 5A semi-finalists 60-42 and the Division III semi-finalists 64-30. They also defeated Illinios power, Kenwood, who hailed from Chicago, 57-36. Kenwood finished the season 27-6 and won the IHSA Regional Championship, but lost in the sectional semi-finals. The Patriots outscored their opponents by more than 30 points per game, on average. The Patriots scored a bit over 61 points per game, while yielding just 30 points per game. One must not forget the district the Patriots play in, which is, historically one of the toughest in the state with Mount Carmel, Dominican and Archbishop Chapelle. Adding to their domination, the Lady Patriots outscored their district opponents by an average score of 55-19! Truly amazing!

We want to thank our players, especially our seniors, coaches, family and supporters for a great season! It certainly is one that will be remembered for a long, long time! We are looking forward to the 2018-19 season already!
