As the New Orleans heat radiates the city, this makes us think of several things…summer, snoballs, swimming pools, baseball season ending, amongst others. However, the one that leaps to the forefront is the anticipation of the arrival of football season. With that, the Patriots have released their 2018 football schedule. As usual, the Patriots face very tough pre-district competition and will participate in district 9-5A and play in the Division I state playoffs.
The practice season begins on August 6th, mandated by the LHSAA. The Patriots will begin practices that day with a two-a-day. Tuesday, the 7th and Thursday, the 9th are single practices followed by a two-a-day on Wednseday the 8th and Friday, the 10th. The LHSAA does not permit back to back days of two-a-day practices anymore. Then, on Saturday, the 11th the Patriots will scrimmage each other. On Wednesday, August 15th, the Patriots will travel to the Northshore to face the St. Paul’s Wolves at 5PM. The Wolves and Patriots have traditionally scrimmaged each other for many years. The next Friday, the 24th, the Patriots will cross the lake once again to face the Covington Lions in the Mandeville jamboree. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
The official start to the season will see the Patriots travel to the westbank of New Orleans to Algiers to face the Landry-Walker Charging Bucs. That game will be played on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 PM. The following Thursday, the Patriots will board charter buses and head to Shreveport to participate in the Battle on the Border series. The Patriots will face Bishop Lynch, Texas on Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 PM in the Independence Bowl. Last year, the Fryers from Dallas, Texas finished 12-1 as the TAPPS semi-finalists. In week 3, the Patriots will once again travel. This time to Baton Rouge to face the Parkview Baptist Eagles on Friday, Sept. 14th at 7:00 PM. The Patriots’ first district game also coincides with the Patriots’ first home game against the Brother Martin Crusaders. This year, the Patriots were unable to play home games at the Shrine on Airline as the New Orleans Baby Cakes management didn’t see it financially feasible to play football at their stadium this season, so adjustments had to be made. The Patriots were able to secure Tulane’s Yulman Stadium for their first home game on Thursday, Sept. 20th. This game will also be our “Hall of Fame” game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM. The Patriots venture out of district during their open week in district to face one of the city’s best and most talented teams, the Warren Easton Eagles. The Patriots will travel to New Orleans’ Pan American Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 27th to face the Eagles at 7:00. The rest of the regular season sees the Patriots play district games, starting with the Jesuit Blue Jays on Friday, October 5th at 7:00 PM, also at Tulane’s Yulman Stadium. The first of two Saturday games will be played next when the Patriots face St. Augustine on October 13th at Tad Gormley Stadium for 2:30 PM. Homecoming will be Friday, October 19th vs. Holy Cross at Muss Bertolino Stadium at 7:00 PM. The second Saturday game is the following week at Joe Yenni Stadium against the Rummel Raiders at 2:30 PM. The last regular season game will be senior night against the Shaw Eagles at Tulane’s Yulman Stadium on Friday, November 2nd at 7:00 PM.
Once again the Patriots will face a very difficult and challenging schedule. Season tickets can be purchased in the school’s business office or by calling 504-737-4621 or by emailing Donna Bordelon at email@example.com for more information or help. We look forward to another exciting season and year of Patriot football! Let’s go to work!
