Girls Varsity Volleyball · Patriot volleyball team’s season comes to an end in quarter-finals

It was not by accident that the Lady Pios of Notre Dame came in as the #2 seed in the state tournament. However, it looked like the Lady Patriots were up to the task early in Thursday’s match in the Pontchartrain Center where an overflow crowd watched. The Patriots played brilliantly in game one in defeating the Lady Pios 25-22. The second game saw it go back and forth nearly matching point for point until the very end and the Pios edged the Patriots 25-21. Game three saw the #2 seeded Pios show their strength by running away with the game 25-14. The Patriots, however, bounced back in game 4 and tied it up at 19 late in the game. However, coming out of a timeout, the Pios served excellently and reeled off four straight points that eventually led to a 25-20 victory, winning them the game and the match.

The Lady Patriots end the season with a 24-15 overall record, a perfect district record and a quarter-final appearance in the Division IV state tournament. That’s a solid season for a team with just one departing player in senior Milaya Ruffin. All other players from the team return for next season. The team was able to gain valuable experience heading into next season and shows a lot of promise for the future.

The student body’s support of the team was outstanding! The Patriot student body sold over 500 tickets to the game and they were very loud! It was so fun and exciting to see the student body rally around the volleyball team at the game. Hopefully, it is a time the students and team will cherish for a long time to come.

Congratulations to the coaches and players for a great season and to the parents and families involved for their dedication and hard work toward the volleyball program and school.
